Undoubtedly one of Duke's finest blues albums, this set owes much to the musicians present on these sides (Bruce Bears on piano and Hammond organ, Brad Hallen on bass, Mark Teixeira on drums), all of whom have developed a common language with Duke over the years. Monster Mike Welch also brings a crucial touch to Independently Blue, appearing on all tracks (some of which he also signed). Such high levels of musicianship and sound quality are sure to put all electric blues lovers in a trance! Duke graduated from student to bandleader when he formed Roomful in 1967, and then from bandleader to solo artist in 1984, when he recorded Duke Robillard & the Pleasure Kings. In 1990 he replaced his friend Jimmie Vaughan in the Fabulous Thunderbirds for three years. And in the past decade he's co-founded the six-string trio New Guitar Summit plus the jump-blues based Sunny And Her Joy Boys with vocalist Sunny Crownover. He's also produced and played on albums by a who's who of greats that embraces Ruth Brown, Jimmy Witherspoon, Rosco Gordon, Billy Boy Arnold, Jay McShann and Eddie Clearwater, and he's toured and recorded with Tom Waits and Bob.
