For this fine album Louis brings together jazz, blues, work songs and spirituals and mixes them into a fine jazz stew! However he also brings another key element into the mix, the American popular song in slow tempo called the “ballad” or “standard” which would go on to inform the repertoire of every jazz musicians set from that moment on.
