“Satchmo: A Musical Autobiography” plus 2 weitere Armstrong Klassiker. Die Original-Liner Notes zur King Oliver Session beginnen mit den Worten: ”This record is a tribute to the man who helped shape Louis Armstrong’s trumpet style back in New Orleans and whose invitation to join his band in Chicago put him in the spotlight which has shone on him ever since”. Mitwirkende Musiker sind Peanuts Hucko, Klarinette, Trummy Young, Posaune, Billie Kyle, Piano, Mort Herbert, Bass und Danny Barcelona, Schlagzeug. Nochmals ein Auszug aus den Liner Notes zu “Louis and the Good Book”: “ A jazzman performing spirituals? In a sense that is what he has been doing all along”.
AVID Jazz here presents classic Louis Armstrong albums including original LP liner notes on a finely re-mastered and low priced double CD.
“Satchmo: A Musical Autobiography- Part2 (4th LP)”; “Satchmo Plays King Oliver”; “Louis And The Good Book”.
Our next Louis Armstrong instalment contains the conclusion of the box set “Satchmo: A Musical Autobiography” plus two other fine Armstrong classics. The original liner notes for the King Oliver session run as follows-”This record is a tribute to the man who helped shape Louis Armstrong’s trumpet style back in New Orleans and whose invitation to join his band in Chicago put him in the spotlight which has shone on him ever since”. Players include Peanuts Hucko on clarinet, Trummy Young on trombone, Billie Kyle on piano, Mort Herbert on bass and Danny Barcelona on drums. Again, to quote from the original liner notes for “Louis and the Good Book” “ A jazzman performing spirituals? In a sense that is what he has been doing all along”. For this fine album Louis brings together jazz, blues, work songs and spirituals and mixes them into a fine jazz stew! However he also brings another key element into the mix, the American popular song in slow tempo called the “ballad” or “standard” which would go on to inform the repertoire of every jazz musicians set from that moment on. Players include Trummy Young on trombone, Edmund Hall on clarinet, Billy Kyle on piano, Mort Herbert on bass, Barrett Deems on drums, Everett Barksdale on guitar plus a choir of ten voices.
All classic albums plus have been digitally re-mastered.
