“Satchmo: A Musical Autobiography”-Part 1 (First 3 LP’s)
Over the course of seven sessions beginning In December 1956 and concluding in January 1957, the 55 year old Louis Armstrong stared his younger self in the face as he recorded 43 new performances along with a handful of remakes. The result was “Satchmo: A Musical Autobiography” that went on to become a definitive document of Armstrong’s powers as a musician in the 1950’s. This was far from a nostalgic trip through his past, this was the music of a seasoned professional musician at the height of his powers, perhaps technically more gifted as a 55 year old than he had been as a wild and dynamic 25 year old. The content on this unique musical document follows the same format as the classic Decca recording “Bing Crosby: A Musical Autobiography”. The music is interspersed with Louis in conversation offering a fascinating insight into how the great man thought and felt about his life and music.
All classic albums plus have been digitally remastered.
