Das Album besteht hauptsächlich aus frühem und traditionellem Blues und knüpft an ihr 1977 erschienenes Album mit Duetten über Spirituals Goin' Home an.
In der AllMusic-Kritik von Scott Yanow heißt es: "Es ist besonders interessant zu hören, wie Shepp, der vor allem für seine wilden Free-Jazz-Auftritte Mitte bis Ende der 60er Jahre bekannt ist, seinen Sound anpasst und Songs wie "Trouble in Mind", Earl Hines' "Blues in Thirds" und "St. James Infirmary" geschmackvoll und respektvoll, aber dennoch emotional behandelt. Empfehlenswert."
