An interesting Orfeo.
Compared to other records, this version of Orfeo with Iestyn Davis have a lot to offer.
Gluck is played rather lighthanded, so its not so oratorylike as other versions. Once Orfeo/Davis starts to sing, there a journey to acknowledge. One feels pity for the character.
In the scene with the furies, the struggle is real. And the surprised Orfeo in the Elyseum are beatiful.
The following duet with Euridice are panic-stricken, and the great Che faro senza Euridice are filled with sorrow.
The other soloists does a great a job. The version are rather short, 80 minutes. But its great listening.
