Deutsche Grammophon führt den Grammy-nominierten Schostakowitsch-Zyklus mit Andris Nelsons als Music Director am Pult seines Boston Symphony Orchestras fort.

Nach der skandalös erfolgreichen Sinfonie Nr. 10 aus dem Jahr 2015, der ausdrucksstarken Schönheit der Sinfonien Nr. 5, 8 und 9 aus dem Jahr 2016 sowie der überwältigenden Lebendigkeit der jüngsten Veröffentlichung mit den Sinfonien Nr. 4 und 11, schließen Nelsons und die Bostoner nun an mit einer Aufnahme der Sinfonien Nr. 6 und 7, denen die Suite aus der der Schauspielmusik von Schostakowitschs Schauspielmusik zu »König Lear« sowie die Festouvertüre op. 96 zur Seite gestellt sind.

Dabei zeichnet sich die sechste Sinfonie durch formale Innovation aus, die siebente entstand größtenteils 1941 zu Beginn der Belagerung des damaligen Leningrads, sie gilt als Schostakowitschs bekannteste Sinfonie, er widmete sie dem Kampf gegen den Faschismus.
