Der »Messiah« ist im Grunde nichts anderes als eine in Metaphern erzählte Jesus-Biographie, geschildert mit der ganzen dramatischen Kraft, Leidenschaft und religiösen Emphase Händels, des »Theaterviechs«, wie ihn Rubén Dubrovsky, Dirigent dieser Einspielung, genannt hat.
Die hier dokumentierte Aufführung vom 19. März 2016 im Stift Klosterneuburg war eine Wieder- und Neubegegnung mit Händels Oratorium und seinem Thema.
Der Librettist Charles Jennens erzählt das Leben Jesu allegorisch: seine Wundersamkeit, seine Erbarmungswürdigkeit und sein Erbarmen, und seine Vollendung, für die Händel das ganze Triumphgepränge des barocken Instrumentariums aufbietet.
