Auch wenn sein Reichtum auf recht fragwürdige Weise zustande gekommen war, hat sich James Brydges, Earl of Carnavon und First Duke of Chandos, in den späten 1710er Jahren als wichtiger Förderer und Mäzen Händels zumindest ein ehrenvolles musikhistorisches Angedenken erworben.
