Die Choreographie von Patrice Bart für das Teatro allla Scala in Mailand geht auf die originale Vorlage von Jean Coralli und Jules Perrot zurück, welche jene für die uraufführung des Werks durch die Ballettcompagnie der Pariser Opéra geschaffen hatten. Bühnenbild und Kostüme beschwören in der Rekonstruktion durch Angelo Sala das Flair der Originalen Entwürfe von Alexandre Bnois herauf, welche dieser zu Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts für seine Arbeit mit Sergej Diaghilew und dessen »Ballets russes« kreiert hatte. Die farbige Partitur von Adolphe Adam wird vom Orchester des Teatro alla Scala unter Leitung von Paul Connelly klangprächtig zu den märchenhaften Bildern ausgebreitet. Ballett in 2 Akten
