Die Untersuchung der im Inn-Isar-Hügelland südwestlich von Passau gelegenen Einöde Gietzering, Gem. Johanniskirchen, Kr. Rottal-Inn, begann 1989 als universitäre Geländeübung. Der auch Gitzering, Gitzkering oder Gitzgering geschriebene Ort ist im Urbar des Klosters Osterhofen von 1349-53 erwähnt. Die zugrundeliegende Schenkung wurde früher ins 10./11. Jh. gesetzt, später ins 12./13. Jh. Mittels Feldbegehung auf rund 5, 1 ha wurde dieses historische Datum anhand der Funde aus dem "Dungschleier" verifiziert und präzisiert. Demnach ist der Siedlungsbeginn im 12./13. Jh. sicher zu greifen, sogar das 11. Jh. könnte schwach präsent sein. Entdeckt wurden 2.342 Funde, vor allem Keramik, von denen 389 katalogisiert und datiert wurden. Ein zweiter Hof nördlich des Hauptanwesens konnte durch den Namensbestandteil -weber in die Zeit ab 1400 datiert werden, was Funde des 14./15. Jh. bestätigten. Ein Katasterplan und Liquidationsplan von 1856 belegt eine Zunahme der Bewaldung im 19. Jh. Ein Kaufvertrag von 1896 samt Inventarliste der beweglichen und unbeweglichen Güter ist eine einmalige Quelle für ein kleinbäuerliches Anwesen aus der Zeit der Industrialisierung.

This study of the Gietzering isolated farmstead near Johanniskirchen, dist. Rottal-Inn, in the Inn-Isar hill country south-west of Passau began in 1989 as a university fieldwork course. The site, which is also spelt Gitzering, Gitzkering or Gitzgering, is mentioned in a rental list of Osterhofen Monastery in A. D. 1349-53.The underlying donation was first dated to the 10th / 11th century A. D., later to the 12th / 13th century A. D. This historical date was verified and specified by means of field walking on some 5.1 ha collecting finds from the "dung scatter". According to this, the beginning of the settlement in the 12th / 13th century A. D. may safely be assumed, even the 11th century A. D. might faintly be present. 2, 342 finds were discovered, mainly pottery, 389 of which were catalogued and dated. A second farmstead to the north of the main one was dated to after A. D. 1400 by its name suffix -weber, which was confirmed by finds of the 14th / 15th century A. D. A cadastral and liquidation plan from A. D. 1856 documents an increase in woodland in the 19th century A. D. A purchase contract of A. D. 1896, including an inventory list of movable and immovable property, means a unique source for a smallholding from the period of industrialisation.
