Nach dem Ausstieg von Tanya Donelly, der Auflösung von The Pixies und der
Rückkehr von Kelley Deal in die Herde, gelang The Breeders mit ihrem zweiten Album und den Hitsingles »Cannonball«, »Divine Hammer« und »Saints«. Das letzte Breeders-Album der 1990er Jahre, als Kelley unter Drogensucht litt und sich davon erholte und Kim ein neues Ventil in The Amps fand, wurde Last Splash mit Platin ausgezeichnet und beförderte Kim Deals großes Songschreiber-Talent aus dem Schatten von Black Francis.
Following the departure of Tanya Donelly, the breakup of The Pixies, and the return of Kelley Deal to the fold, The Breeders' hit the alternative big time with their second record, and its hit singles »Cannonball,« »Divine Hammer,« and »Saints.« The last Breeders album of the 1990s, as Kelley suffered and recovered from drug addiction and Kim found a new outlet in The Amps, Last Splash went platinum and brought Kim Deal's massive song writing talents out from behind the shadow of Black Francis.
