Fun Boy Three wurde von Terry Hall, Lynval Golding und Nevile Staples gegründet, nachdem sie im Sommer 1981 The Specials verlassen hatten. Die Band wandte sich mehr dem Pop zu und veröffentlichte ihre Debütsingle »The Lunatics (Have Taken Over The Asylum)«, die im Oktober 1981 Platz 20 in den britischen Charts erreichte. Die Ausdauer des Titels wirkt bis heute nach und führte dazu, dass die reformierten Specials mit Terry und Lynval den Titel auf ihrem Comeback-Album »Encore« 2019 neu aufnahmen.
Auf ihrer zweiten Single wurden sie von Bananarama für eine Coverversion des alten Jazz-Standards »T'Ain't What You Do (It's The Way That You Do It)« begleitet, die Platz 4 in den britischen Charts erreichte (Februar ›82). Die dritte Single aus dem Album, »The Telephone Always Rings«, war ebenfalls ein Top-20-Hit und vervollständigte das Trio von Hits im ersten Jahr der Band.
Dieses Debütalbum, »The Fun Boy Three«, wurde im März 1982 veröffentlicht, war ein Top-10-Hit in Großbritannien und erlangte schließlich Goldstatus.
Diese neu gemasterte Ausgabe des Albums erscheint auf rotem 180g-Vinyl mit einer Hochglanzhülle und bedruckter Innenseite.
