Remastered.
Taking their name from the track on the "Killing Machine” album by Judas Priest, Hamburg’s Running Wild would become best known as the Metal band with the pirate fixation. However, this image wasn’t to emerge until a good few years into their career (following their 3rd album release, "Under Jolly Roger” to be precise).
Prior to this, Running Wild were hell bent on establishing themselves on the wider European metal circuit, and following a number of well- placed demo tapes, the band came to the attention of Noise Records during the early 80s.
An invitation from the label lead to the band being included on the now revered compilation album, "Rock From Hell” which was released in ’83. This was quickly followed by inclusion on the ‘Death Metal’ comp. in ’84 where Running Wild had two tracks to their name. Gaining favourable interest the band were offered to record their first full-length album for Noise Records and "Gates To Purgatory” was released at the end of that same year.
With the band photographed surrounded by skulls and the satanic track titles, Running Wild began to draw comparisons to Venom and their ilk, when in reality they were more influenced by the aforementioned Priest along with Kiss and AC/DC.
Running Wild would go on to record eight studio albums for Noise and also release a live album. With a devoted fan-base, worldwide albums sales and a brand new album due for imminent release, "Gates To Purgatory” is where Running Wild first cast-off on their voyage of Metal discovery!
· Fully re-mastered Collector’s Edition of the debut album from one of Germany’s first Thrash Metal bands.
· Expanded to include two bonus tracks.
· 12 page booklet with story of the album sleeve-note from a brand new interview with Rock ‘N’ Rolf and rare photos and images of memorabilia.
