Southern Roots//Boogie Woogie Country Man
The music of the legendary JERRY LEE LEWIS continues to amaze and enthral listeners the world over. Following the best-selling re-issue on one CD of Another Place Another Time and She Even Woke Me Up to Say Goodbye now comes the second of Raven’s Jerry Lee 2-fers. Generally acknowledged as his two last great solo albums, 1974’s Southern Roots and its 1975 follow-up Boogie Woogie Country Man found the ‘Killer’ tackling a wide range of material – from the lascivious ‘Meat Man’ and the gospel standard ‘Jesus is on the Mainline’ to the soul classics ‘Hold On, I’m Coming’ and ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’.
The mid-1970s was a time of personal turmoil for Lewis, but with instrumental support from a bunch of crack session musicians, including Steve Cropper, Al Jackson Jnr, Augie Meyer, Donald ‘Duck’ Dunn, Mack Vickery, Carl Perkins, Tony Joe White, the Memphis Horns and others, these albums found him kicking out with first-rate performances. This release is rounded out with six bonus tracks. (ravenrecords. com. au)
