‘Fearless’ sums up the attitude of both the band and their lead singer, the inimitable Roger ‘Chappo’ Chapman. The group took no prisoners when it came to ‘live’ performances, with their blend of wild-eyed showmanship and stomping rock tunes. While sometimes described as ‘erratic’, the band was capable of creating innovative and often surprisingly subtle material. This was their fifth album, originally released in 1971, at a time when Family was being augmented by such newcomers as bass player John Wetton. ‘Chappo’ remained at the helm, alongside Charlie Whitney on guitar and Rob Townshend (drums). They are featured on the ten original LP tracks that are complemented on this CD by four bonus items. These include two ‘live’ performances that give an insight into the kind of impact Family had on audiences when they were among the top touring attractions of the early Seventies.
