Product Information
“The Road to Doo Wop” is proving to be a very successful series for Acrobat. This album features the work of vocal groups who were responsible for laying the groundwork for the explosion of Doo Wop in the mid to late Fifties. Formed from various Gospel groups in 1952, The Du-Droppers are an important link between Gospel groups, harmony groups and the rise of Doo Wop and Rock n’ Roll. Their Rockin’ sounds presented here from the answer song to The Dominoes, “Sixty Minute Man”, “Can’t Do Sixty No More” to “Boot ‘Em Up is essential to any serious vocal group collection. Their two biggest hits were “I Wanna Know” and “ I Found Out (What You Do When You Go Round There” both of which reached No 3 on the Billboard R&B charts. Unlike a lot of groups of this period The Du Droppers wrote much of their own material, only occasionally using the songs of professional songwriters. In fact one of the CD’s toughest tracks “Bamalam” was written by Leiber & Stoller but remained unissued until the eighties.
