Die Ursprünge moderner Burlesque-Shows findet man in den 30er Jahren in den USA als Teil von American Vaudeville / Night Club-Unterhaltung. Hand in Hand mit der urbanen Night-Club Kultur, Striptease und Pin-Up Girl-Kult entwickelte sich Burlesque auch dank der bekannten Stars wie Betty Page und Lilly St. Cyr zu einer wichtigen Subkultur, der auch von vielen Musikern gehuldig wurde.
Aktuell ist Dita Von Teese die wohl bekannteste New Burlesque-Tänzerin. Und so findet man auf dieser Compilation Songs von Frank Sinatra, Screamin Jay Hawkins, Dinah Washington, Louis Prima, Etta James u. v.a.!
