Set in neutral Sweden during the Second World War, Eva tells the tale of a man who is paralysed by guilt over a childhood incident that left a dependant friend dead.
Bo works through his trauma by renewing a relationship with his childhood sweetheart. However their idyll is shattered when the corpse of a German soldier is washed ashore, instigating a serious sense of foreboding in them.
Written by Ingmar Bergman in the autumn of 1947, the script for Eva was sold to Svensk. They then found a director that would be available to make the film. The man they found was none other than Gustaf Molander, a veteran of over 34 films by 1949 and the man who famously brought a young Ingrid Bergman to the screen.
