About the film

Die prominenteste Moskauer Plattenwohnung war die von Costakis – dem bedeutendsten Sammler russischer Avantgarde-Kunst des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts. Gedrängt hingen an den Wänden verbotene und vergesse Werke von Malewitsch, Tatlin, Kandinsky, Chagall, Lissitzky, Rodtschenko oder Kljun – besucht von Edward Kennedy, Strawinsky oder Alfred Barr. Barrie Gavin traf die Sammlerlegende 1982 in seinem Athener Haus. Leidenschaftlich erzählt ihm der in Russland geborene Grieche Costakis seine Geschichte und die, der großen russischen Avantgarde-Künstler. Ihre Werke sind sein Vermächtnis, die ohne ihn die politischen Umbrüche Russlands nicht überdauert hätten.
