+ McCoy Tyner, Art Taylor
Steve is the first artist we signed to our Jazz label. Over the years he has attained a dazzling maturity, and his generosity continues to surprise us.
After the success of his album Do It, recorded in the studio in Paris, we had an idea: to set up a musical encounter with the great McCoy Tyner.
We began talking to him about doing a week gig at Sweet Basil in New York, Steve would be leading, McCoy would be at the piano, Avery Sharp on bass, Art Taylor on drums – and there it was, a sumptuous live album.
The artist list was quite surprising, and of course the elite of New York musicians and jazz-lovers all rushed downtown to Sweet Basil. And the club was sold out even on the first night.
Steve Grossman is the most moving sax player in the field today, and we must agree with Michaël Brecker who has dared to say, “Right now, Steve Grossman is the greatest.” You’ll hear it all in this live album. Just listen … (Francis Dreyfus)
