More information needed, and for ALL new releases of "old" vinyl records
WHY ?... again, Why ? can not the labels get in touch and invite some known names from the vinyl community?
Subject: How to present a thorough and certified information on a new release? One that all labels should comply too!
I am no expert but when you release a new "release" of a record that was first released for 40 years ago, then on only analogue mixed, mastered etc. and pressed on vinyl, tapes, cassettes, Betamax(?), VHS (?)... whatever; Now there is a whole new universe of alternatives to get hold of that original "master" and bring it to the market. Just to mention a few examples, you probably know more than me, but anyway. It may be my bad info but here is my opinion;
Different mastering in the US, EU and Japan, and nothing informed to the buyers... (Joni Mitchell box, Marvin Gay, Al di Meola Saturday Night In Sanfrancisco...)
Above because of different contracts etc, but then inform about that so we can make a buying decision; US or EU edition?
Clearly discription of the process from the "original master"; 1. Is it from "THE master" or from other source? 2. Then, what did you do with it? 1-2-3 process? The Voodoo way? One Step? ... what make it possible for Analogue Productions to make AAA in so many copies, I may be stupid but can anyone explain...
3. Number (2) should be verified and signed off by the legal person/label; We the buyers pay a LOT for the real thing! It is a big investment in music, collecting or all other personal motives. Nowadays it may be AAA but who knows what is the next thing, A-DSD256-Download.... or a live in the studio recording direct to a quantum computer to a Schrödinger's Cat system, who nows?
Well, I think I have expressed my thoughts of this.
I can not review this in a proper way since I do not know anything about the release; Is it a REMASTER or what?
But the original is GREAT music, on a poor vinyl, could be better mastered.... Well what do YOUthink?
Best regards, Toby
