When I was listening again to my first budget LP’s on the dubious British label ARC (from the sixties), I went curious about the pianist Paul Procopolis. I started a search on Internet and soon I discovered that Paul Procopolis never had existed. It was a pseudonym for several pianists, and one of them was Sergio Fiorentino. And now, so many years after his dead in 1998, I discovered this box (and also one of the greatest pianists of his time). The works in this box are recorded after his retirement in 1993. The recordings were made in four sessions of two days in October 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. First class recordings, made in the Siemensvilla in Berlin. And what we hear in these recordings is not only a pianist with a brilliant technique, we hear a pianist who tells us stories with his piano. Every note from every composer he played for these sessions is breath-taking. These Berlin recordings are a marvellous musical testament of Sergio Fiorentino.
