Another symphonic masterpiece uncovered by cpo!
The 3rd Symphony is a masterpiece - of that there can be no doubt. Clearly in the tradition of Brahms, Rudorff nevertheless pushes that tradition much further in terms of harmonic complexity and rhythmic variety. The work holds the attention from beginning to end, with wonderful melodies beautifully orchestrated and constant surprises, especially in the wilder outbursts which must have baffled audiences a century ago.
I haven't stopped playing this symphony since the CD arrived here in England. It is a major discovery. Hats off to cpo, to conductor Frank Beermann, to the Bochum Symphony Orchestra and to the sound engineers!!
I earnestly hope there there will be more Rudorff from this team in the future...
