I Love Toto but not my record!
When you put on a Toto record, you always expect something special. If this is not the case, then the disappointment is much higher than with other bands in this league… So my feelings when hearing "With a little help ...".
Without a doubt, each of the musicians involved is in a class of their own. John Pierce on bass, Robert "Sput" Searight on drums, Warren Ham percussion... and of course Joseph Williams, Steve Lukather and David Paich. But do we really need a live record from a non-rehearsed Toto follow-up band that has a shitty sound… Who lacks any brilliance?? Okay Covid or not... the idea... okay. But this record grooved like recordings from a cover band. The drummer who is without a doubt brilliant... looks the worst at it. The footsteps of Simon and Steve are definitely too big... not technically but in terms of feeling. To play a drum solo without any tension at the end of the B side... Brother You should have known that I am tearing you here!
There is no song on the record that surprises in any way ... with a changed arrangement ... a special groove or something special. The whole band locked themselves in for 10 days and recorded the disc ... and that's exactly how it sounds and grooves.
Sorry people ... I Love Toto but not my record!
