Elizabeth Poston arbeitete während des Zweiten Weltkriegs unter anderem für die BBC, wo sie als angesehene Pianistin auftrat und später Partituren für zahlreiche Radio- und Fernsehproduktionen komponierte. Poston, die sich selbst als eine »Kleinkrämerin« beschrieb, die nie große Stücke schreiben wollte, zeigt in dieser Aufnahme, der ersten, die ausschließlich ihrem Werk gewidmet ist, ihr überragendes Talent für das Komponieren von Vokal- und Chorminiaturen. Postons Musik offenbart einen zeitlosen melodischen Charme, eine große Sensibilität für die Vertonung von Worten und ihre tiefe Wertschätzung alter Volksliedtraditionen.
