Lajtha hatte eine eigentümlich starke Affinität zu der Zeit um 1700, und Capriccio, wie der Blaue Hut, spielt in dieser Zeit. Capriccio zeigt, mehr als jedes andere Werk Lajthas, eine klare Beziehung zur Commedia dell'arte, zum italienischen Volkstheater des 17. und 18. Dies wird bereits aus den Namen der dramatis personae deutlich, Arlequin, Colombine, Pantalon, der Hauptmann und so weiter, aber auch die Geschichte selbst ist typisch. Es ist nicht zu weit hergeholt, Capriccio als eine Commedia dell'arte des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts zu beschreiben. Auch hier gibt es eine enge Verwandtschaft zwischen der komischen Oper Der blaue Hut mit einem Libretto von Salvador de Madariaga und dem Ballett, die beide von der gleichen künstlerischen Absicht inspiriert sind. Es ist zudem möglich, dass Lajtha nur eine Commedia dell'arte-Bühnenarbeit im Sinn hatte, bei der die Handlung um das Jahr 1700 stattfand und das eigentliche Genre erst später auftauchte und zunächst in ein Ballett und dann in eine Oper mündete.

Lajtha had a peculiarly strong affinity with the period around 1700 and Capriccio, like The Blue Hat, is set in that time. Capriccio, more than any other work by Lajtha, shows a clear relationship with the commedia dell’arte, with popular Italian theatre of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This is already clear from the names of the dramatis personae, Arlequin, Colombine, Pantalon, the Captain and so on, but the story itself is also typical. It is not too far-fetched to describe Capriccio as a twentieth century commedia dell’arte. There is here too a close kinship between the comic opera The Blue Hat, with a libretto by Salvador de Madariaga, and the ballet, both of them inspired by the same artistic intention. It is possible, moreover, that Lajtha only had a commedia dell’arte stage-work in mind, with action taking place around the year 1700, with the actual genre only appearing later, leading first to a ballet and then to an opera.
