Il Caleidoscopio Ensemble debütiert mit Musik vom Hofe Charles II.

Nach der Schreckensherrschaft Oliver Cromwells wollte der neu inthronisierte Monarch Charles II. die Kultur zu den Gepflogenheiten vor der Zeit des Bürgerkriegs zurückführen: neues, altes England. Komponisten wie Dowland, Byrd, Playford, Locke und Simpson sahen sich in der Tradition William Lawes', der eine zentrale Rolle am Hofe des entmachteten (und enthaupteten) Charles I. gespielt hatte. Das multinational besetzte, in Mailand beheimatete Ensemble Il Caleidoscopio debütiert auf »New Old Albion« mit Musik, ganz so, wie sie um 1660 am Hofe erklungen sein könnte: tänzerisch, verspielt, elegant, aber nicht ohne Melancholie.

Musik vom englischen Königshof des 17. Jahrhunderts

Für Liebhaber von Musik dieser Zeit zu empfehlen. Sehr gute Aufnahme, klingt zuhause noch viel besser als beim Probehören.
Die Zusammenstellung des Mailänder "Il Caleidoscopio", besetzt mit einer Barock-Violine anstatt einer Altgambe, finde ich nicht sehr geglückt. Der Gastmusiker des Ensembles, Michele Pasotti, entschädigt dafür mit wunderbaren Baßklängen einer großen Theorbe, wohl auch einer Laute. Im Booklet sind die Texte nur auf Englisch und Italienisch verfasst. Das ist nicht wirklich ein Problem, will man ja schließlich die Musik hören, keine Romane lesen. Für den wichtigen deutschen Markt an Tonträgern für klassische Musik wären Booklet-Texte auf deutsch schon sinnvoll gewesen. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis dennoch super!
