Das Album stellt Werke von Komponistinnen vor, die zwischen 1821 und 1964 lebten. Viele dieser Lieder entstanden während der sogenannten Belle Époque, einer Zeit, in der Frauen allenfalls als Interpretinnen akzeptiert, als Komponistinnen aber nicht ernst genommen wurden.

Und selbst da, wo sie im Wortsinn Gehör fanden, in den Salons von Paris, gerieten ihre Werke schnell wieder in Vergessenheit. Mehrere hier zu hörende Lieder wurden von Grimaldi und Bushakevitz wieder entdeckt in Bibliotheken und Archiven.

Das Ergebnis ist ein spannendes Zeit- und Stilbild, das von Cécile Chaminades bodenständiger Villanelle bis zu Augusta Homès Lavandières aus der keltischen Mythologie reicht.
