Seit 1953 ›Master of the Queen's Music‹ hatte Sir Arthur Bliss (1891-1975) das wohl renommierteste musikalische Ehrenamt im Königreich inne.

In dieser Eigenschaft steuerte er 1962 für die Weihe der wiederaufgebauten Kathedrale von Coventry sein Chorwerk ›The Beatitudes‹ (Die Seligpreisungen) bei, das zusammen mit Benjamin Brittens heute ungleich bekannterem War Requiem uraufgeführt wurde.

Sir Andrew Davis stellt die Komposition hier vor, die verdient hätte, bekannter zu sein ‒ wie generell die Musik dieses überaus interessanten Komponisten, der zu den bedeutendsten Tonschöpfern Großbritanniens im 20. Jahrhundert gezählt werden muss.
