Der im Jahr 1943 zum ersten Mal verliehene Pulitzer Prize für Musik ist seither die wahrscheinlich begehrteste Auszeichnung im Konzertleben Amerikas. Diese CD mit dem Grant Park Orchester und Chor unter der Leitung ihre Chefdirigenten Carlos Kalmar präsentiert drei mit dem Pulitzer Preis ausgezeichnete Werke aus der Anfangszeit des Wettbewerbs. Bemerkenswert ist in diesem Zusammenhang die Tatsache, dass es sich bei William Schumans Free Song (Pulitzer Gewinner 1943) und Leo Sowerbys Canticle of the Sun (Pulitzer Gewinner 1946) um Weltersteinspielungen handelt.
