"Das Abegg Trio, bisher mit Plattenaufnahmen mit Beethoven- und Brahms-Trios ausgewiesen, kommt - was seinen Namen angeht - mit dieser Einspielung 'zu sich selbst' und dies Urteil ist nicht nur eine Namensspielerei, sondern bezieht sich in erster Linie auf die Einspielung selbst: waren die Beethoven- und Brahms-Aufnahmen schon höchst beachtlich, so besticht die Schumann-Interpretation der drei Musiker durch natürlichen Fluß, musikantischen Elan, wo er vom Komponisten intendiert ist, und analytisch-delikate Detailarbeit, wo sie die Struktur erfordert. Gibt es beim d-moll-Trio interpretatorisch hochrangige Konkurrenz (...), denen sich das Abegg Trio durchaus gewachsen zeigt, so ist die gleichermaßen atmosphärisch dichte wie 'charakteristische' Aufnahme der Phantasiestücke ohne Konkurrenz. Far more, it refers to the recording itself: whereas the Beethoven and Brahms recordings were highly remarkable in themselves, the Schumann interpretation by the three musicians is utterly charming: with its natural flow, musical élan where Schumann intended it, and analytically delicate detail work where the structure requires it.
