Diese Originalaufnahme von de Banfields1955 entstandener Oper Lord Byron’s Love Letter ist eine echte Rarität. Sie war nur sehr kurz erhältlich und wurde bis jetzt nie als CD veröffentlicht. Die Oper des Schülers von Nadia Boulanger basiert auf einer Geschichte von Tennessee Williams und spielt zur Karnevalszeit „Mardigras“ im New Orleans des späten 19. Jahrhunderts und erzählt die Geschichte einer älteren exzentrischen Dame, die sich damit, einen Liebesbrief auszustellen, der angeblich von Lord
Byron stammt, ein Zubrot verdient. Eines Tages erhält sie Besuch von einem Ehepaar aus Milwaukee… De Banfields Einakter wurde vom Time Magazin seinerzeit für die wunderschönen Melodien gelobt.

Based on a Tennessee Williams play set in late 19th-century New Orleans during the Mardi Gras, it revolves around an eccentric old lady, lost in the past, who displays to visitors an old love letter for money, purportedly by the rakish English poet.
