Das höfische Fest der Renaissance war der ideale Tummelplatz, um die Kunst des Tanzes und den kunstvollen Tanz weiter zu entwickeln. Italien war so gesehen die natürliche Brutstätte dieser Kunstform zu dieser Zeit. Negri, mit Spitznamen „Il Trombone“, war Professor für Tanz, einer der bedeutendsten Tanzmeister des 16. Jahrhunderts. Er machte in Mailand eine sehr schnelle und steile Karriere. Seine Arbeit dokumentierte er mt vielen Beispielen aus der Praxis, wie viele seiner Kollegen und Zeitgenossen, in einer Publikation: „Le Gratie d‘Amore“, erschienen in erster Auflage 1602 in Mailand.
