Einige von Vivaldis Konzerten tragen beschreibende Titel, und das erste der veröffentlichten Flötenkonzerte, das Konzert in F-Dur, RV433, trägt den Titel La tempesta di mare (Seesturm), den es mit zwei anderen verwandten Konzerten für Flöte, Oboe und Fagott teilt. Derselbe beschwörende Titel wurde für das fünfte von einem Dutzend Konzerten verwendet, die 1725 unter dem allgemeinen Titel Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione (Der Wettbewerb der Harmonie und Erfindung) veröffentlicht wurden, wo es unmittelbar nach den Vier Jahreszeiten steht. Es gibt jedoch keine Anzeichen für die Art des detaillierten Programms, das diese populären Konzerte geprägt hatte, die meteorologische Störung, die hier im Allgemeinen durch dramatische Skalen und schnelle Figuration angedeutet wird. Es gibt eine plötzliche und unerwartete Pause, eine Unterbrechung im Sturm, vor der Ruhe des langsamen Satzes, die durch die Aktivität des letzten Presto aufgelöst wird.

Some of Vivaldi’s concertos carry descriptive titles and the first of the published set of flute concertos, the Concerto in F major, RV433, has the title La tempesta di mare (Sea-Storm), shared with two other related concertos for flute, oboe and bassoon. The same evocative title had been used for the fifth of the dozen concertos published in 1725 under the general title Il cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione (The Contest of Harmony and Invention), where it is placed immediately after The Four Seasons. There is, however, no sign of the kind of detailed programme that had marked those popular concertos, the meteorological disturbance generally indicated here by dramatic scales and rapid figuration. There is a sudden and unexpected pause, a break in the storm, before the calm of the slow movement, dissipated by the activity of the final Presto.

Gerade der von Kritikern so oft angekreidete dünne Orchestersatz Vivaldis erweist sich dank Müller-Brühls tiefem Verständnis für die Partituren als kunstvoll-ökonomisches Gebilde, das mit Anwendung der vielfältigen Streicherklangfarben die ganze Regenbogenpalette bietet.
