Klappentext

From its beginnings as a frontier outpost to its emergence as a dynamic center of American life, Ohio has long stood at the crossroads of the nation's history. In Ohio Panorama , acclaimed photographer Thomas R. Schiff invites readers to experience this remarkable evolution anew through a sweeping visual journey that captures the spirit of "the Heart of It All."

Created to honor the United States' 250th anniversary, this volume brings together Schiff's masterful panoramic photography in a series of immersive, full-arc images that surround the viewer. Schiff uses the Hulcherama camera to produce richly detailed 360-degree perspectives, revealing not only the scene before the lens but also its entire environment. The result is an experience at once documentary and transformative, offering a rare sense of place that conventional photography cannot achieve.

Organized into four thematic sections-Heart of Innovation, Heart of Beauty, Heart of Knowledge, and Heart of the Nation-the book highlights Ohio's distinctive contributions to the nation's industry, landscape, intellectual life, and civic identity. From urban centers and historic landmarks to natural vistas and centers of learning, Schiff's images celebrate the diversity and vitality that have defined the state across generations.

This new collection revisits familiar terrain from Schiff's 2002 book, Panoramic Ohio, with renewed vision, bringing decades of experience and technical refinement to subjects both iconic and unexpected. The resulting work is at once commemorative and forward-looking, honoring Ohio's past while capturing its enduring relevance in the American story.

Ohio Panorama reframes the landscapes, institutions, and communities that shape the state, providing an opportunity to see Ohio with fresh eyes.
