Sara Ball wurde 1944 in München geboren. Zeichnen und Malen hat sie sich selbst beigebracht. Bevor sie sich dem Bilderbuch zuwandte, absolvierte sie eine Lehre als Schaufenstergestalterin. Schon 1961 erschien ihr erstes Bilderbuch. Von 1962 bis 1970 arbeitete Sara Ball als wissenschaftliche Zeichnerin an der Prähistorischen Staatssammlung und beim Landesamt für Denkmalspflege in München. Seit 1971 ist sie freischaffende Künstlerin und hat seitdem mehr als 100 Kinderbücher illustriert.
