Robert Armstrong: Broadcasting Policy in Canada, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

Over the past decade, broadcasting in Canada has been transformed by the rise of internet-based streaming services. A data-rich, empirically grounded analysis of the structure and behaviour of the modern Canadian broadcasting landscape, the new edition of Broadcasting Policy in Canada examines the achievements and shortcomings of recent policy and regulations.

Concerns about the appropriate role of such services in the Canadian broadcasting environment led to the Online Streaming Act of 2023, an Act to amend the 1991 Broadcasting Act. The Online Streaming Act reinforced the policy instruments necessary to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for broadcasting in Canada, including the ability to make rules, gather information, and impose penalties for non-compliance on online undertakings. This book offers an authoritative and timely examination of how the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is deploying these instruments. Now in its third edition, the book features extensive, updated charts and tables and reflects on the risks for Canadian culture and media sovereignty in today's environment.

Broadcasting expert Robert Armstrong demonstrates that in the current global context, the presence of Canadian voices is central to the maintenance of Canadian national identity and cultural sovereignty and can be galvanized through the employment of effective regulatory policy.
