Patrick Carman war zunächst als höchst kreativer Unternehmer tätig, bevor er zum Schreiben kam. Er entwickelte Brettspiele, Lernprogramme, Webseiten und ein erfolgreiches Radioprogramm. Seine Karriere als Geschichtenerzähler begann er, als er für seine beiden kleinen Töchter Gutenacht-Geschichten erfand. Heute lebt er mit seiner Frau und seinen beiden Töchtern im Nordwesten der Vereinigten Staaten.
