The thesis deals with the question of maternity protection and parental leave for members of the german federal and state parliaments, which has hitherto been largely unresolved in law. After an overview of the only rudimentary current regulations, it works out that there is a constitutional requirement to put in place appropriate regulations. It shows which regulatory options are constitutionally permissible and useful from a parliamentary point of view.
