Klappentext
Atholene Peyton devoted her life to public education, community service, and civic progress. She was a beloved domestic science teacher at Central Colored High School in Louisville, Kentucky, and a popular fixture of the city's Black community, celebrated for her generous hospitality. When Peyton realized the need for a textbook to instruct her students in the culinary arts, she wrote the Peytonia Cook Book , which was published in 1906.
In this revamped edition of the first Kentucky cookbook written by an African American woman, Peytonia delivers sophisticated flavor in every dish. Whileproviding recipes for everything from delectable breads and meats to drinks and desserts, Peytonia moves beyond the dining room, with tips on how to equip an efficient kitchen, select the best quality ingredients, and entertain successfully. New additions include a biography of Atholene Peyton--detailing her life, career, and legacy--as well as explanations of changes to the text and of the context in which Peyton originally wrote the book.
Editor Donna Hecker's updated version of Peytonia Cook Book introduces a new generation to a remarkable woman and her culinary expertise; it's a treat for food historians and home cooks alike to savor.
