Gerade bekam Gerhard Weinberger für seine cpo-Gesamteinspielung der Bach-Orgelwerke den Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Christmas with Organ
Gerhard Weinberger has just been awarded the annual prize of the German record critics for his recording of J. S. Bach's complete organ works on the cpo label, as this edition is unique in almost every respect for its scope and the large number of organs featured from Bach's places of work in Thuringia and Saxony. Together with his wife Beatrice Maria, he is now presenting Christmas works for organ by a wide variety of composers. On the organ of Roggenburg monastery church, one of a number of significant monumental organs in Upper Swabia, with 43 registers – a considerable number for the 18th century – distributed among three manuals and pedals, they play duets and solos by John Marsh – one of the most outstanding musicians of his generation in southern England – Giovanni Morandi from Pergola, Julius Schneider from Berlin and the famous French composers and organists Théodore Dubois and Charles-Marie Widor, as well as more modern pieces by Ralf Bölting and Robert J. Powell.
