Rezension:
"Anspieltipps aus diesem Album sind natürlich als erstes sein Top 10 Hit “Lover, Lover” und sein “What Do You Want”, das ein wenig vom Stil her, an seine Single “Lover, Lover” erinnert, aber in einer Ballade gehalten ist. Ein wunderbarer Song ist auch sein “Old School New Again” und das doch recht flotte “How Can I Be So Thirsty” auf diesem Album. Sein Song “Bakersfield” gehört mit zu den Favoriten, was auch für den Song “I Hope You Get What You Deserve” zutrifft." (countrymusicstars. de)
"Jerrod Niemann may be a fresh voice on the country airwaves but this Kansas native has already been making a name for himself, both as a performer and a respected songwriter, best known for co-writing Garth Brooks’ #1 hit “Good Ride Cowboy”. Jerrod’s creative style is very much his own, blending traditional roots with a contemporary edge, together with unconventional elements for an album that he describes as “deliciously diverse." (rlslog. net)
"In sum, Mr. Niemann is a gentleman outlaw, but mostly he’s a history-minded technician on this thoughtful, magnetic record, his voice carrying bits of Garth Brooks (whom Mr. Niemann has written for) and George Strait put in service of oodles of plain, forceful writing. Best is “What Do You Want,” a tender scold (“I’m so tired of living like this / I don’t have the time, neither do my friends”) with a Hawaiian lilt to the melody. Even more striking are the skits — drunken calls from Mexico, girls begging for Robert Earl Keen covers, loopy fan mail — that make for a country album as it might be conceptualized by Prince Paul." (NEW YORK TIMES)
Jerrod’s hit “Lover, Lover,” a cover song from obscure Chicago band Sonia Dada, sets the tone for much of this album; the generous 20-track set is filled with surprises... Don’t be misled—Jerrod may be a hat act who references Lefty Frizzell in “Old School New Again,” but his unpredictable mashup of styles is suited to fans who like their country a bit more risky than, say, the songs of Alan Jackson or Randy Travis."
