In den 50er Jahren wurde es R&B genannt, oder auch Rhythm and Blues. Aber in den 60er Jahren wurde ein neuer Begriff geformt, Soul Music. Der Name reflektiert hier auch die Wurzeln der Musik, die im Gospel liegen. Wenn die Musik also nicht klang, wie sie gemeint war, hatte sie keine Seele.
