Der jamaikanische Sänger Nicky Thomas hatte Mitte der 70er Jahre mit seiner Interpretation von »Love Of The Common People« - ursprünglich ein Titel von The Winstons - einen Chart-Hit in Jamaika und England. Der Sänger Paul Young machte den Titel 1983 nochmals zu einem Welterfolg. Das gleichnamige Album entstand unter der Produktion von Joe Gibbs in Jamaika. Der Erfolg führte den Künstler jedoch schon bald dazu nach England umzusiedeln, wo er regelmäßig mit anderen Reggae-Künstlern wie Desmond Dekker tourte.
