Die amerikanische Rockband Kansas veröffentlichte ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum 1974. Ihr erstes Album ist eine Mischung aus Boogie und Progressive Rock. Das erste Epos aus dem Album heißt »Journey from Mariabronn«, das mit klassischen Einflüssen beginnt bevor Orgel, Gitarren und Geige einsteigen.
Ein anderer großer und Track ist »Death of Mother Nature Suite«, bestehend aus Violinenstücken und unterschiedlichen Gitarrenriffs. Kansas wurde in den 1970er Jahren mit Hits wie »Carry On Wayward Son« und »Dust in The Wind« berühmt.
Neben ihren bekannten Balladen haben sie auch einige eindrucksvolle progressive Stücke geschaffen. Diese Vielfalt und Energie der Band ist der Grund, warum Kansas immer noch auftreten und neue Songs aufnehmen.
