Die Single »Stand By Your Man« wurde 1970 veröffentlicht und erreichte Platz 4 der US-R&B-Charts. Statons definitive Southern-Soul-Version von »He Called Me Baby« erreichte bei Release im Januar 1971 ebenfalls eine hohe Platzierung. Sowohl »Stand By Your Man« und »He Called Me Baby« erschienen auf Statons zweitem Album Album »Stand By Your Man«, das Ende 1970 veröffentlicht wurde. Wie bei ihren Singles und ihrer Debüt-LP »I'm Just A Prisoner« lief eine von Capitol initiierte Werbekampagne u.a. mit dem Slogan »Stand by your radio«. Das Album ist einer der Grundpfeiler des Southern Soul. Neben den oben aufgeführten Titeln enthält es weitere Stanton-Klassiker wie »Mr and Mrs Untrue«, »Freedom Is Just Beyond The Door« und »Sweet Feeling«. Diese neue CD-Version erscheint im Mini-LP-Sleeve mit einer 13,5 cm x 13,5 cm großen festen Hülle, sowie einem Booklet mit einem neuen Interview über diese magische Phase in Candi Staton's Karriere, und vielen Archiv-Fotos aus dieser Zeit.
