Bernard Purdie is one of the most well known drummers of all time, in all genres of music and probably the most recorded in history. From his early days as a session player to being Aretha Franklin’s musical director, being an over-dub drummer for The Beatles, recording albums with King Curtis, Steely Dan, Cat Stevens, Joe Cocker, Herbie Hancock, Hall & Oats, Quincy Jones, The Last Poets, Roberta Flack & James Brown, “The Hit Maker” is a staple in music!
In 1967 he entered a studio with several other friends to cut his first solo album; Soul Drums which was released on Date, a new subsidiary of Columbia Records. More recently he was the drummer for the 2009 Broadway revival of Hair and appeared on the associated Broadway cast recording.
Soul Drums has become one of the most sought after drum LPs amongst vinyl collectors. With it’s heavy reverb psychedelic funk sound, this record will blown lids!
