»Small Faces«, ursprünglich im Juni 1967 veröffentlicht, war das Debütalbum der Band für Andrew Loog Oldhams Immediate Records.
Aufgenommen in den IBC und Olympic Studios in London mit Glyn Johns, erweiterte die Gruppe auf diesem Lieblingsalbum ihre klangliche Spielwiese von Pop und R&B über Acid-inspirierte Psychedelia (»Green Circles«), Music Hall (»All Our Yesterdays«), Folk-Rock im Walzertakt (»Become Like You«) bis hin zum typischen Small Faces-Pop in seiner straffsten und schwungvollsten Form (»Get Yourself Together«), Paul Wellers Lieblingslied der Small Faces.
The band’s third album for Immediate from 1967, now with six bonus tracks, including two songs by Steve Marriott’s The Moments.
The Small Faces, along with the Rolling Stones and the Beatles epitomised the original Britpop sound of Swinging London of the 60’s and remain as one of the most influential groups of the era.
This was the group’s third U. K. album and their first for Andrew Loog Oldham’s legendary Immediate label. Released at the height of ‘The Summer Of Love’ in 1967, it was critically acclaimed and made number twelve in the U. K. album chart. A marked improvement on their earlier Decca albums, it brilliantly reflected the psychedelic mood of the time, as well as the group’s willingness to experiment in the studio under the expert guidance of Glyn Johns.
Although no singles were taken from the album – a common practice at the time – it contained several Small Faces classics, including ‘My Way Of Giving’ (which gave the group’s label mate Chris Farlowe a hit single in 1967) and ‘(Tell Me) Have You Ever Seen Me’, which was covered by label mates The Apostolic Intervention.
Attractively-presented in digipak format, this re-issue includes six bonus tracks which include both sides of a hard-to-find single by The Moments, which featured Steve Marriott’s first recording as a member of a group. (charly. co. uk)
