Vor 25 Jahren änderten Public Enemy die Regeln im Hip Hop und wurden die prägende Rap-Band der US-Ostküste. 1987 schlugen die New Yorker mit ihrem Debütalbum „Yo! Bum Rush The Show“ wie ein Meteorit in der Rap-Welt ein. Co-produziert von Rick Rubin und The Bomb-Squad legten Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, Terminator X und Co. eine der einflussreichsten Hip-Hop-LPs aller Zeiten hin.
Zum runden Jubiläum erscheinen auf Public Enemys neuer „25th Anniversary Vinyl Collection“ ihre ersten sechs Alben auf 180-Gramm-Vinyl in einem Boxset. Mit dabei sind: „Yo! Bum Rush The Show“, „It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back“, „Fear Of A Black Planet“, „Apocalypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Back“, „Muse Sick-N-Hour Mess Age“, abgerundet von ihrem Soundtrack „He Got Game“ des 1998er-Kino-Films von Spike Lee.
Die beste Phase der definitiven Rap-Gruppe klingt heute immer noch genau so spannend wie damals.
