In September 1991, Ultravox frontman and Band Aid co-founder Midge Ure released “Pure”, his third solo album, which featured the singles “I See Hope In The Morning Light” and “Cold, Cold Heart”. He waited until 1996 before releasing his fourth solo album “Breathe” which featured hit singles “Fields Of Fire, “Guns And Arrows” and the title track, which was used for a Swatch commercial.
The albums features an extraordinarily eclectic group of guest musicians: King Crimson’s Robert Fripp, Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains, Mark Brzezicki of Big Country, Dean Parks, Larry Klein, classical cellist Ofra Harnoy, Liam O’Maonlai of Hothouse Flowers, and violinist Shankar.
This expanded release of both albums contains thirteen bonus tracks, the non-album b-sides of the singles taken from the albums, including Ure’s versions (otherwise unrecorded) of Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac’s “Man Of The World” and “Supernatural” as well as a live version of the Walker Brothers’ hit “No Regrets”, originally a solo hit for Midge in 1982. The booklet contains lyrics and annotation.
Ultravox have of course recently re-united and are touring the UK’s major venues throughout April and May. EMI have recently re-issued the band’s Chrysalis albums.
